Are getting tattoos safe?

Yes. Here at Art n Soul, we take strict precautions to ensure tattooing our clients is 100% safe. We do this by following the strict guidelines outlined by the SA Health Department. Our artists also use disposable instruments ie needles, grips and cartridges ensuring they are used once only then disposed of. Our staff members here at Art n Soul are also trained in infection control, ensuring that everything is done according to the state health department regulations.

Does getting a tattoo hurt?

In short, the only answer to this question is yes. How much it hurts is going to vary between people as everyone has different pain thresholds and each person will have a different feeling towards how much getting a tattoo hurts. Some of our clients have described the feeling as more irritable and have compared the pain to that of being waxed, saying that waxing is more painful! The staff here at Art n Soul are aware that each client is different and will react differently to the sensation of being tattooed. Knowing this means our artists always do their best to make the experience as comfortable and relaxed as possible for each of their clients.

How much does it cost?

The price of a tattoo will vary depending on the size, placement and level of detail involved in the piece. We have a minimum charge for small pieces under half an hour’s work. For the bigger pieces an hourly rate is charged, which you can discuss with our artists via a consult. We highly recommend booking in consults with our artists for large, custom pieces as it gives us a better understanding of what the client truly wants out of their design and the time involved in completing the piece. Here we can offer a quote based on this information.

How long does it take?

Again, depending on the size, placement and level of detail involved in your design, will all contribute to the time it takes to complete your tattoo. Our artists can give you a rough time frame based on reference pictures and descriptions but there is no definite time frame we can offer.

Can I use numbing agents?

Numbing agents are readily available from chemists or to order online to aid in pain relief during the tattoo process. However, the artists at Art n Soul do not recommend using numbing creams due to the impact they have on the skins elasticity (therefore making it harder to tattoo pigment into the skin) and after your tattoo during the healing process.

Can you do cover ups?

Our artists have all succeeded in doing numerous cover up’s so yes, we can definitely offer our clients cover up’s. In saying that however, not everything can be covered without first getting laser treatments. We always recommend coming into the studio to chat with our artists so we can see the tattoo and from there discuss the client’s options, whether that be a straight cover up or a few laser treatments to broaden your options for a cover up in the future.

Do you accept walk in's?

Our artists are all generally booked up in advance and of course all pre booked appointments take priority over walk in’s. It is always best to book in advance. However in some cases such as cancellations and no shows, we are able to help out our walk in clients. We are always welcoming of clients; even if just to book an appointment in the future if we cannot find time on the day.

Do you have EFTPOS or online payment methods available?

Our tattoo and piercing procedures are for cash only payments.

What can I put on my tattoo after getting it done?

Here at Art n Soul we highly recommend using QV for your after tattoo care cream, which is conveniently sold at most chemists and supermarkets. We do not recommend using products such as paw paw cream or other various moisturisers as this can cause the ink to be pushed out while the tattoo is healing.

How do I take care of my new tattoo?

Your artist will have dressed your new tattoo with a bandage to protect the new wound from any airborne bacteria entering the wound. Leave this on for 1-2hours. With CLEAN hands, remove the bandage and wash it gently with luke warm water and a mild antibacterial wash.

Be sure to remove any blood and/or plasma from the area. Do not use anything abrasive such as a washcloth, your hand is your best tool in this case. Pat (do not rub) the area dry with a CLEAN towel or paper towel. We do not recommend applying aftercare cream for the first 24hours.

Ensure you have clean sheets when you sleep or your new tattoo is covered with clean clothing. When applying cream to the area, remember less is best and always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your new tattoo! Do not soak your new tattoo, this includes pools and spas.

We recommend avoiding soaking your new tattoo for 2-3 weeks. Avoid the urge to pick at your tattoo. Like sunburn, you will notice your new tattoo starting to peel and there may possibly be a little scabbing. Do not pick at your new tattoo. This will affect the general look and outcome of your healed tattoo leaving the design looking patchy.

You should also keep your new tattoo out of direct sunlight for at least two weeks and once it is completely healed, we recommend using a sunblock with a minimum SPF30. This will help keep your tattoo vibrant for many years to come. Remember if you have any questions or concerns regarding the healing of your new tattoo; please do not hesitate to contact us.
